Welcome to the Granite Lake Association Blog!

Welcome,

As you probably already know, (since you're reading this), GLA has recently set up a web site, granitelake.org which includes a blog. Since this is a new endeaver for us we would appreciate any feedback on what you like, don't like, and what you would like to see included in the future, both on the web site and the blog. If you would prefer not to comment on the blog itself you can also contact us at webmaster@granitelake.org or blogger@granitelake.org.

For example, how would you feel about having a membership list with an option of using an email address and opting out of regular mail mailings? This would not only be less expensive for the Association since postage/paper/envelope/time costs would be reduced but also information could be distributed in a more timely fashion. Members without access to a computer or those who just prefer the traditional route would still receive their information as they do now.

Thank you for taking the time to look at both the web site and the blog and we hope to hear from you soon regarding comments, suggestions, feedback, ideas or whatever concerns you because this is an Association project and it really is all about you.

Please leave a comment. It doesn't have to be long, "ok" is fine and if you check anonymous you don't have to do the identity part. We need some comments to see if the blog is working or not. If you have trouble leaving a comment, email webmaster@granitelake.org so we'll know we have a problem. Thanks, webmaster

Need to make more people aware of the site.

I think this site could really be helpful to get information out to members and hopefully attract new members.

Please plan to attend the special meeting of the Granite Lake Village District on Saturday April 26, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Chapel by the Lake. There are various warrant articles to consider, including a $99,000 bond, relating to the repair or reconstruction of the dam and the box culvert supporting both the dam and the presently closed Town of Nelson road over a part of the dam. The DES has found this culvert to be part of the dam system. How far does the "dam system," for which the GLVD is responsible, extend? No one can definitively say.

The election of one Commissioner and other District officers will take place too. Commissioner John MacAllister has been nominated for the Commissioner's position for a term of 3 years. Other than rumor no one appears to be publicly opposing John.

Great website, prior to buying property on the lake, this was the most helpful collection of Granite lake info available. We will soon have many questions about lake life, in and around. What a wonderful community. I'm sure there's someone out there that can point us in the right direction.
Thank You, keep it up.

Thanks for this opportunity to post news of loon nest on the north shore of the island in Granite Lake and to request boaters be aware and avoid the landing area until loon eggs hatch. When? I don't know. I'm trying to find out from NH Fish and Game.

The Loon Preservation Society will put up markers/signs this week to warn of the loon nesting site. Not anything we can do about the eagle threat, they said.

Biologists from The Loon Preservation Committee today (June 18) put a sign in the water in front of the nest warning boaters and put signs on shore forming a perimeter around the nest warning people walking on the island. Diving rock and rest of island are open for use. Biologists estimate hatching in about 2 weeks at the end of June. They expect to take signs down a few days after hatching.

There have been two physical sightings on Granite Lake of the loon family, two adults and two babies. Hatching was late yesterday or early today.
